Arrowhead Limited
Recipe:
- 15ml mezcal (preferably Del Maguey Vida)
- 15ml Campari
- 30ml Carpano Antica Formula or other full bodied vermouth
- 60ml IPA (originally 90-120ml)
Short shake everything except the IPA with ice, strain over ice cubes into a prechilled highball glass, top up with the IPA, stir shortly. Garnish with grapefruit slices.
A lovely long drink - dark, bitter, yet tart and refreshing. Sparkling and aromatic, with notes of bitter orange, dried cherries, Mediterranean herbs, smoke, and dried agave, as well as tart hops. As always, I went with a 1:1 ratio for the filler (the IPA), and it was really good this way - though it's definitely one of the most intense long drinks I've had in recent years. So if you prefer something a bit milder, you might actually want to go with the 90ml or more in the original recipe (though, purely in terms of flavor, it's not really a typical "light" long drink anyway).
A bit about the history, coming directly from the PUNCH page: "Part of the opening menu at Boelte's Grand Army Bar in Brooklyn, the drink is named for a train that used to run from Wisconsin to Minnesota in the 1970s."
