Fancy Holland Royale
Recipe:
- 45ml Bols genever
- 22.5ml Grand Marnier
- 1 tsp simple syrup
- 1 dash Fee Brothers Whiskey Barrel-Aged Bitters
- dry Champagne (my rec.: 60-70ml)
Stir everything over ice until sufficiently chilled. Strain into a prechilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon zest.
In the main book of Death & Co, there are several pages full of wonderfully simple and yet very effective champagne cocktails. Usually just one spirit and one modifier, rarely two, often a well-stocked house bar already has everything ready.
Here is an interesting and rarely seen base spirit for champagne drinks. A really nice cocktail, malty and dry-orangy, some cocoa and cinnamon behind that in the finish, from the bitters. Fresh, dry and yet also fruity-sweet in between.
