The Del Rio
Recipe:
- 45ml blanco tequila
- 22.5ml fino sherry
- 22.5ml elderflower liqueur
- 3 dashes orange bitters
Stir all ingredients over ice until sufficiently chilled, strain into a prechilled cocktail glass. Express the oils of a grapefruit zest over the glass & coat the rim, discard.
You can always get me with this type of classic drink if it is well balanced. Specifically, this means above all stirred drinks with high-quality ingredients that benefit a lot from using craft products (which is not as important for example in some tiki drinks).
The Del Rio offers notes of fresh and intense agave, mineral notes and light nuts, as well as light berries and a fine, floral sweetness. The grapefruit oils add a nice freshness to the nose. I can only recommend using elderflower liqueurs that are not quite as sweet, e.g. preferably Giffard Premium rather than St. Germain, but there are now also other (and local) products on the market. Or make it yourself, of course.
