Spring Rain
Recipe:
- 45ml gin
- 30ml madeira
- 15ml peach liqueur
- 2 dashes aromatic bitters
- mezcal (for aromatizing/rinsing)
Aromatize a cocktail glass with the mezcal. Stir everything on ice until sufficiently chilled, strain into the prechilled, aromatized cocktail glass, garnish with a lemon zest.
The recipe sounded just like it could be just up my alley, and it was indeed one for my liking, elegant and yet strong and aromatic, stirred, slightly spicy and smoke as a counter to a certain sweetness/fruit.
The Madeira wine is beautifully present at the start, followed by the gin as a fresh, citrussy energizer and base, both together forming a great unit. This is followed by dried fruits, citrus zest, a hint of pepper, then specifically peach, fresh citrus acidity and fine cloves. Everything is elegant and yet very aromatic, sweet and spicy and yet somehow fresh, a very exciting combination with the mineral smoke.
