The Sexpert
Recipe:
- 45ml Peruvian pisco
- 15ml gin
- 15ml J.D. Taylor's Velvet falernum
- 15ml passion fruit syrup
- 15ml lemon juice
- 6 drops Bittermen's Burlesque bitters
Combine all ingredients in the shaker and fill with cracked and/or cubed ice. Shake and double-strain into a chilled coupe and garnish with an edible orchid or hibiscus flower.
A terrible name, reminiscent of the depths of 1980s cocktail culture, albeit a funny one. "Funny" because it doesn't originate from the disco era or Playboy articles, but was conceived and named in honor of a book release party for feminist author Susie Bright, who mainly writes books on the subject of, you guessed it, sex.
In fact, it's one of my absolute favorite drinks from Cate's Smuggler's Cove book because it offers a thoroughly exciting combination of flavors. The unique grapeiness of the pisco with its delicate sweetness, then the fresh crispness of the gin, lemongrass, and lime zest, the tropical passion fruit is not too overpowering with only 15 ml, and then in the original recipe, the complex and slightly red-fruity Burlesque Bitters (but it also works with Aromatic/Ango). Very exciting and delicious.
